Pakistan to Host First Ever National Digital Summit in August

Pakistan is set to host its first-ever National Digital Summit on August 7, which would come as a major step in its ambitions to become a regional technology hub.

The National Digital Summit, being organized by the GSM Association (GSMA), a global organization representing mobile network operators, will bring together top leaders from Pakistan’s public and private tech sectors. The event is expected to serve as a platform for discussing the country’s digital transformation, telecom growth, and future innovation strategies.

According to official announcements, the summit will feature participation from key government figures, including the Finance Minister, the Minister for IT and Telecommunications, the Chairman of the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA), and other senior officials, along with major stakeholders from the local and international IT industry.

The summit comes at a crucial time for Pakistan’s digital economy, which has been growing steadily, with over 195 million mobile subscribers and a rapidly increasing number of internet users. The country also boasts one of the largest freelance IT workforces in the world, contributing significantly to digital exports.

Additionally, recent efforts by the Ministry of IT have focused on expanding 4G coverage, enabling 5G readiness, supporting local startups, and boosting IT exports, which reached over $3 billion in FY2023–24 in Pakistan.

The GSMA’s involvement in the summit is also significant, as the organization plays a central role in setting global standards for mobile connectivity and innovation. It has previously collaborated with governments around the world to promote inclusive digital ecosystems and regulatory reforms.
