Japan has granted $263 million to fund scholarships for Pakistani civil servants, as part of a new agreement signed between the two countries on Tuesday.
The “Human Resource Development Scholarship” agreement was formalized by Dr. Kazim Niaz, Secretary of Economic Affairs, and the Japanese Ambassador to Pakistan. This funding will enable young professionals from Pakistan’s federal government to pursue advanced studies in Japan.
According to the Economic Affairs Division, the latest phase of the program will select 16 federal employees to undertake Master’s degrees at leading Japanese universities. The initiative, carried out in partnership with the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), is designed to enhance the skills and policy-making abilities of public sector officials.
Since the program began in 2018, seven groups of Pakistani civil servants have benefited from these scholarships, significantly contributing to their professional growth and strengthening ties between the two nations.
Dr. Kazim Niaz expressed appreciation for Japan’s ongoing support, emphasizing that such programs not only empower individuals but also play a vital role in Pakistan’s development.
