According to the President’s Office website, the ratification of the Act demonstrates the stance of Maldives’ government in response to the atrocities by Israel against the people of Palestine.
Maldives on Tuesday (April 15) banned the entry of Israeli passport holders in the country by passing a bill in its parliament with unanimous votes from all the MPs who participated in the voting process.
Thereafter, Mohamed Muizzu, the President of Maldives, ratified the amendments to the country’s Immigration Act.
According to the President’s Office website, the ratification of the Act “further demonstrates the stance of Maldives’ government in response to the atrocities and ongoing acts of genocide committed by Israel against the people of Palestine,” reported The Edition.
It adds that Maldives remains steadfast in advocating for accountability for violations of international law and in condemning Israel’s actions against Palestine.
According to the new amendment to the Immigration Act, travellers visiting Maldives with Israeli passports will not be allowed entry.
However, those Israeli passport holders who have dual citizenship can enter the country and travel through passports from another country.
After being stalled for 308 days, the bill was reviewed and passed in the Committee on Security Services (241 Committee), before being passed in the parliament.
