Chairman Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) Major General (retd) Hafeez-ur-Rehman announced on Monday that the regulator will hold the country’s long-awaited 5G spectrum auction between April and May this year.
Speaking at a ceremony attended by Malaysian telecom officials, he acknowledged existing delays in the rollout of 5G services in Pakistan.
Malaysian telecom representatives, who have already transitioned from 5G to 5.5G, shared their experiences in implementing the technology. The PTA chairman added that Pakistan would benefit from Malaysia’s expertise in launching 5G services.
In the same event, Minister of State for IT and Telecom Shaza Fatima Khawaja noted that Pakistan was getting closer to the launch of 5G as planning and consultations were well underway.
The arrival of 5G in Pakistan will further boost economic activity and drive digital transformation, the minister added.
