Shanghai becomes new winter sports hotspot

As more ice and snow venues are developed and made accessible to the public, the barriers of time and geography have been broken down, allowing residents of Shanghai and its surrounding areas to enjoy winter sports year-round.

In recent years, participation in these activities has grown exponentially. In 2018, over 600,000 people took part in skating and skiing. By 2021, that number had surged to 2.8 million, and by 2024, it reached 4.52 million. Shanghai is swiftly establishing itself as a leading hub for ice and snow sports in China.
