Prof. Engr. Zamir Ahmed Awan is the founder and Chair of the Global Silk Route Research Alliance, an independent think tank based in Islamabad. A sinologist and former diplomat, he served as Science and Education Counsellor at the Pakistan Embassy in China. He studied mechanical engineering at Shanghai University from 1981 to 1987, which is the qualification behind the "Engr." in his title. After returning to Pakistan he established the China Study Centre at the National University of Sciences and Technology (NUST), where he is Deputy Director, and later founded GSRRA. He writes on the Belt and Road Initiative, Eurasian geopolitics and the China-Pakistan relationship, and his commentary has been quoted by China Daily and by China News Service. His articles have also appeared in Modern Diplomacy and on Think Tank Pakistan.
