A high-level Chinese cultural delegation visited the China Window cultural exchange center in Peshawar, praising its efforts to promote Chinese culture and strengthen Pakistan-China friendship, while both sides agreed to launch reciprocal people-to-people exchanges between the two countries.
Bai Jie, Advisor to the China Cultural Centre in Pakistan, and Chen Tiantang, Director of the Pak-China Cultural & Economic Progress Welfare Organisation, toured the centre’s galleries and were briefed on its cultural, educational and public diplomacy initiatives, with particular appreciation expressed for programmes introducing Pakistani youth to Chinese language, culture and history.
“We are deeply impressed by the vibrant platform China Window has created for cultural understanding in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa,” Bai Jie said during the visit, adding that such institutions play an indispensable role in transforming state-to-state relations into deeper public-level connections.
Building on the visit, discussions between the two sides explored launching reciprocal cultural exchange visits between citizens of Pakistan and China, a proposal that received strong backing from the Chinese guests. Bai Jie and Chen Tiantang described direct interaction between ordinary citizens, professionals, students, cultural representatives and civil society members as an effective means of promoting mutual understanding.
China Window offered to take the first practical step by hosting a delegation of Chinese citizens in Pakistan, with the centre proposing to arrange accommodation, meals, local transportation and a full programme of cultural, educational and recreational activities. The planned visit would allow Chinese guests to interact with Pakistani students, academics, professionals and journalists while visiting the country’s historical and cultural sites.

Both sides agreed in principle that the exchanges should not remain one-sided, with reciprocal visits of Pakistani delegations to China also to be encouraged in the future. Representatives of China Window said that while Pakistan-China relations already enjoy an exceptional strategic partnership, greater emphasis on people-to-people connectivity would give the friendship a stronger social foundation.
“The bond between our nations has always been exceptional at the governmental level,” a representative said. “It is now time to build the same strength at the grassroots level, where ordinary citizens from both countries can connect, share, and grow together.”

Bai Jie and Chen Tiantang expressed their satisfaction with the initiatives undertaken by China Window and said they hoped collaborative cultural programmes would further enhance understanding between the peoples of both countries. “We are confident that these exchanges will further strengthen the enduring bonds of Pakistan-China friendship,” Chen Tiantang said. “The more our people know each other, the stronger our friendship will become.”
China Window has established itself as a significant institution in Pakistan’s cultural landscape, running cultural exhibitions, educational programmes, language courses and public diplomacy activities that have engaged thousands of Pakistanis, particularly young people.
Its sustained efforts have earned recognition from both Pakistani and Chinese authorities as a model of cultural diplomacy, and the delegation’s visit underscored the role such institutions play in building lasting bridges between the two nations.
As Pakistan and China prepare to move forward with the reciprocal exchange initiative, the two sides expressed confidence that regular people-to-people visits would open a new chapter in bilateral relations, built on mutual respect and understanding between citizens of both countries.
