Pakistan and China strengthened their economic partnership with the signing of investment and commercial agreements worth around $1.4bn during the Pakistan-China Business Conference, paving the way for increased industrial collaboration, technology transfer, and local manufacturing.
The conference brought together more than 250 Chinese companies and a large number of Pakistani businesses for business-to-business (B2B) meetings focused on exploring investment opportunities, joint ventures, and long-term commercial partnerships across multiple sectors.
On the concluding day of the event, 42 agreements valued at nearly $850m were signed, covering pharmaceuticals, medical devices, vaccine manufacturing, healthcare technology, and industrial production, according to APP.
The overall investment commitments of approximately $1.4bn show growing Chinese investor interest in Pakistan’s industrial and healthcare sectors and are expected to support technology transfer, expand domestic production, and create employment opportunities.
A significant portion of the agreements focuses on establishing local manufacturing facilities for pharmaceutical products, vaccines, and medical equipment.
These projects are expected to reduce dependence on imports, strengthen Pakistan’s healthcare infrastructure, and enhance the country’s manufacturing capabilities.
During the conference, companies from both countries held extensive discussions on expanding manufacturing capacity, improving supply chains, increasing value-added production, and identifying new opportunities for industrial cooperation.
Officials and business representatives described the conference as a major step in deepening Pakistan-China economic ties, saying the agreements would contribute to industrial modernization, improve export competitiveness, and support sustainable economic growth.
The pharmaceutical and healthcare sectors emerged as key beneficiaries, with planned investments expected to facilitate the establishment of modern production facilities capable of meeting domestic demand while opening opportunities for exports to regional and international markets.
Industry leaders said collaboration with Chinese companies would introduce advanced manufacturing technologies, improve product quality, and strengthen research and development in Pakistan’s healthcare industry.
The participation of more than 250 Chinese firms underscored the growing interest of China’s private sector in expanding its footprint in Pakistan.
Hundreds of B2B engagements throughout the conference resulted in a series of commercial partnerships and investment understandings between businesses from both countries.
The event also highlighted the expanding role of private-sector cooperation in reinforcing the broader Pakistan-China strategic partnership, with business leaders expressing confidence that the signed agreements would soon translate into on-ground investment projects.
Speaking to APP, Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI) President Atif Ikram Sheikh termed the signing of $1.4bn worth of agreements a major achievement for bilateral economic cooperation.
He said the investments in pharmaceuticals, vaccine manufacturing, industrial collaboration, and other priority sectors would attract foreign investment, facilitate technology transfer, create jobs, and strengthen Pakistan’s export capacity.
Rawalpindi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (RCCI) President Usman Shaukat also described the conference as an important milestone in expanding bilateral trade and investment, saying the agreements showed increasing confidence among Chinese investors in Pakistan’s business environment and would promote industrial development, technological advancement, employment generation, and export growth.
Economic experts believe the investment commitments will help increase Pakistan’s industrial output, attract additional foreign direct investment (FDI), generate employment, and further strengthen economic integration between Pakistan and China.
The conference concluded with both countries reaffirming their commitment to expanding mutually beneficial economic cooperation and creating new opportunities for investment, innovation, and industrial development.
