Pakistan received a record $4.25 billion in workers’ remittances in May 2026, marking the highest monthly inflow in the country’s history and providing further support to the external sector and foreign exchange reserves.

The latest inflow was up 20 percent compared to April 2026 and 15 percent higher than May 2025, according to data released by the State Bank of Pakistan and estimates by Topline Research. The increase was largely driven by seasonal inflows associated with Eid, a period that typically sees higher remittance transfers from overseas Pakistanis.

Cumulative remittances during July to May of FY26 reached $38.1 billion, reflecting a 9 percent increase compared to the corresponding period of the previous fiscal year. The latest figures place Pakistan on track to achieve its highest annual remittance inflow on record.

Saudi Arabia remained the largest source of remittances in May, contributing $1.03 billion, followed by the UAE with $1.01 billion. Remittances from the UK stood at $645 million, while inflows from the US reached $350 million. Strong growth was also recorded from the European Union and other regions.

Analysts said the continued rise in remittances reflects the confidence of overseas Pakistanis and remains a key pillar supporting the country’s external account stability amid ongoing economic challenges.

With one month remaining in FY26, Topline Research expects total remittances for the fiscal year to exceed $41 billion for the first time, setting a new annual record for Pakistan.
