Following the tragic incident involving an Air India Boeing 787 aircraft in Ahmedabad, the airline—owned by the Tata Group—has announced a series of major decisions. The most significant among them is a 15% reduction in international flights operated by wide-body aircraft, effective from June 20.
According to Indian media reports, this decision will remain in place until mid-July. Air India stated that the move aims to increase aircraft reserve availability, allowing the airline to respond more effectively to any future technical or safety-related issues.
The airline emphasized that the cut in international flights is a proactive measure to maintain operational stability and ensure better service for passengers. A revised international flight schedule, reflecting the changes, will be released soon.
Air India also confirmed that it is coordinating with the Government of Gujarat and the Ministry of Civil Aviation to provide full support to the families of the victims and injured passengers affected by the Ahmedabad accident.
In response to the incident, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has mandated enhanced safety inspections for Air India’s Boeing 787-8 and 787-9 aircraft. Out of the airline’s fleet of 33 Dreamliners, 26 have already passed inspection and returned to service, while the remaining aircraft will be examined in the coming days. Additionally, Boeing 777 jets will also undergo extra safety checks as part of a broader effort to improve flight safety.
The series of actions taken reflects Air India’s commitment to ensuring passenger safety and operational reliability following the recent setback.
