The federal government has earmarked Rs15 billion in the FY 2025-26 budget for the long-awaited Sukkur–Hyderabad Motorway (M-6), a major step toward enhancing connectivity in the region.

The strategic project is expected to boost trade, national integration, and regional accessibility by completing the last missing link in the country’s motorway network.

Federal Minister for Communications Abdul Aleem Khan announced that construction on the M-6 would begin this year, with the project divided into five segments for more efficient execution.

He also confirmed that the Islamic Development Bank (IDB) has shown interest in financing the motorway, with a final decision on the loan anticipated in September 2025 following the bank’s board meeting.

Responding to recent comments by the Sindh chief minister, the minister said he accepts responsibility only for the past year’s developments and refrained from criticizing previous governments’ inaction on the HSM and Karachi motorway projects.

Aleem Khan further underlined the importance of linking Karachi Port to the national motorway network, stating that without this connection, the network’s potential for facilitating import, export, and business activities would remain underutilized.
