Sana Mir during her playing years before ICC Hall of Fame induction

Pakistan’s former women’s cricket team captain Sana Mir has rewritten history once more after being inducted into the ICC Hall of Fame as part of its latest class. The trailblazer, regarded as the greatest women’s cricketer from Pakistan, has now become the first woman to be part of ICC’s Hall of Fame from the country.

The announcement was made before the World Test Championship final at Lord’s, and her name stood alongside some of the biggest stars in world cricket.

From her debut in 2005 to her retirement in 2020, Sana Mir played a vital role in shaping the future of women’s cricket in Pakistan — both on and off the field. She played 120 ODIs and 106 T20Is for Pakistan, captaining the national side in 72 ODIs and 65 T20Is. Under her leadership, Pakistan won gold medals at the Asian Games in both 2010 and 2014; achievements that helped bring attention and respect to women’s cricket in the country.

With 151 wickets in ODIs, she remains Pakistan’s leading wicket-taker in the format. In 2018, she became the top-ranked ODI bowler in the world, another historic first for a Pakistani woman.

Speaking after her induction into the ICC Hall of Fame, Sana Mir said: “From dreaming as a little girl that one day there would even be a women’s team in our country to now standing here, inducted among the very legends I idolised long before I ever held a bat or a ball — this is a moment I couldn’t have dared to imagine.”

Sana Mir joins an elite group of Pakistani cricketers in the Hall of Fame, including Hanif Mohammad, World Cup-winning captain Imran Khan, fast bowling greats Wasim Akram and Waqar Younis, batting maestros Zaheer Abbas and Javed Miandad, and the legendary spinner Abdul Qadir. Her inclusion is significant not just because of her achievements, but because it marks a shift in the way women’s cricket is recognised in Pakistan and around the world.

MS Dhoni, Matthew Hayden, Hashim Amla, Graeme Smith, Daniel Vettori, and Sarah Taylor join Sana Mir in the latest ICC Hall of Fame class.

For Pakistan fans, this moment belongs to Sana Mir. Her induction is not only a recognition of her individual excellence but also a tribute to the fight, progress, and dreams of countless young girls in Pakistan who now see a clear path to greatness.

Sana Mir didn’t just play cricket — she changed it. Now, she stands among the greatest the game has ever seen.
