Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi laid the foundation stone for a 10-storey NADRA Mega Center in Islamabad’s I-8 sector on Friday.

The center, expected to be completed by June 2026, will help ease pressure on existing registration offices and improve service delivery through expanded capacity and modern infrastructure.

While chairing a high-level meeting at NADRA headquarters, the interior minister reviewed key issues related to data security and biometric verification.

NADRA Chairman Lt. Gen. Muhammad Munir Afsar expressed concern over various government departments and private entities maintaining separate databases of citizens’ biometric information.

He stressed the need to centralize such data under NADRA’s secure system and speed up the nationwide shift to facial recognition—particularly for citizens facing fingerprint verification problems.

It was decided that all separate biometric storage practices would be ended, with the unified system to be implemented by December 31, 2025.

Additionally, the minister directed authorities to begin blocking SIM cards registered on expired CNICs, starting with those issued in 2017 or earlier. SIMs issued under the names of deceased individuals will also be deactivated in coordination with the PTA.

The move aims to curb misuse of identity data and ensure stronger digital security across mobile networks.
