Former US President Donald Trump has expressed willingness to help India and Pakistan find a resolution to the long-standing Kashmir dispute following the announcement of a ceasefire between the two countries.
In a post on his platform Truth Social, Trump said he would work with both nations to achieve a solution to the Kashmir issue, which he described as unresolved for “a thousand years”.
Trump also praised the leadership of India and Pakistan for halting military escalation. “I am very proud of the strong and unwaveringly powerful leadership of India and Pakistan for having the strength, wisdom, and fortitude to fully know and understand that it was time to stop the current aggression that could have lead to to the death and destruction of so many, and so much. Millions of good and innocent people could have died!” he wrote.
He said the United States played a role in helping both sides reach the ceasefire and announced plans to significantly boost trade with both countries.
This was Trump’s second post in a matter of hours celebrating the ceasefire, which followed strikes and counter-strikes on military targets from both sides of the Pakistan-India border.
