The construction of Route 47, a major new road in Lahore, has been completed at Kalma Chowk. This major project, led by the Punjab Central Business District Development Authority (CBD Punjab), cost approximately Rs. 9 billion.

Route 47 spans 4.5 kilometres, linking key roads such as Ferozepur Road, Main Boulevard Gulberg, Walton Road, and Lahore Ring Road. It plays a pivotal role in the Central Business District (CBD), a high-rise commercial area rising on the site of the former Walton Airport.

A key highlight of the route is its 1-kilometre flyover that connects directly to Walton Road. According to Imran Amin, CEO of CBD Punjab, Route 47 incorporates several cutting-edge features.

“It serves as the central artery of the country’s first high-rise commercial district. The road is designed to prevent waterlogging and includes separate tracks for pedestrians and cyclists,” Amin told Urdu News.

The road’s smart infrastructure sets it apart. Solar panels line the footpaths, generating up to one megawatt of electricity and providing shade for pedestrians. This makes Route 47 the first road in Pakistan capable of generating power.

With this completion, all CBD development is now concluded. The authority is also nearing the finish of two large parking plazas to manage the area’s traffic.

Additionally, a modern sewerage system has been installed, along with a system for underground rainwater harvesting, which will feed into a soon-to-be-completed artificial lake.
