Pakistan Air Force’s (PAF) National Aerospace Science & Technology Park (NASTP) has unveiled plans for nine new radar and sensor programs.
These include the development of a passive radar, a multi-function radar, and an airborne early warning (AEW) radar.
This announcement came through a promotional PAF video highlighting President Asif Ali Zardari’s visit to a NASTP facility. Alongside these new projects, NASTP has also upgraded more than 40 radars for the PAF, Pakistan Army (PA), Pakistan Navy (PN), and international clients.
Since the mid-2010s, Pakistan has been working to enhance its capabilities in radar and sensor development.
One major initiative was the local upgrade of Siemens Mobile Pulse Doppler Radar (MPDR) systems, which included integrating solid transmitters from Germany’s Hensoldt in 2019. This helped transition legacy mechanically scanned radars into phased array systems.
By 2024, NASTP introduced the SR-3D, a short-range S-band air defense radar, with a longer-range variant expected by 2026. Additionally, NASTP is advancing passive sensor technology capable of tracking 200+ targets over 400 km.
