PIA to Procure More Airplanes Next Year
Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) plans to expand its fleet by adding eight new aircraft next year, according to its CEO.
The announcement was made during a meeting of the National Assembly Standing Committee on Aviation, chaired by MNA Nawabzada Iftikhar Ahmed Khan Babar, at Islamabad International Airport on Monday, as per an official press release.
PIA CEO Khurram Mushtaq stated that the new additions will include wide-body Boeing 777 aircraft, which will primarily serve long-haul routes. He also announced that the airline’s flight operations to Europe, which had been suspended for four years, will resume with a direct flight to Paris on January 10. Initially, PIA will operate two weekly flights on this route.
Additionally, the CEO highlighted an agreement with Air France, which will offer greater connectivity for passengers traveling to other destinations across Europe.
Addressing concerns raised by committee members about the quality of in-flight meals, the CEO assured them that significant improvements have already been implemented.
He also revealed that daily flights between Karachi and Sukkur will commence from Wednesday, noting that the rise of motorways has led to a decline in domestic air travel demand.
