The feasibility study for the “Murree Tourist Glass Train Project,” aimed at linking Islamabad and Murree, is expected to be finalized by April 30, 2025. The task of conducting the study has been entrusted to the National Engineering Services Pakistan (NESPAK).
Following the completion of the study, the project will require approval from the relevant authorities before proceeding to the contract stage, which will be awarded through an international tendering process. The initiative will be implemented under a public-private partnership model.
The proposed route for the glass train will cover a 55-kilometer stretch from Islamabad to Murree, beginning at the H-9 Railway Station in Islamabad.
A meeting held at NESPAK House in Islamabad, chaired by Punjab Transport Minister Bilal Akbar, focused on assigning the feasibility study and addressing key aspects of the project. Stakeholders present at the meeting discussed various elements and shared their insights to ensure the project’s success.
During the session, participants were informed about the progress of the feasibility study. NESPAK representatives provided an overview, highlighting that the study will assess aspects such as railway tracks, station infrastructure, geological surveys, environmental preservation, and other critical considerations.
Once the feasibility study is concluded, the project’s route, cost, and implementation plan will be finalized, paving the way for its next stages, including contract awarding and execution.
