Federal Energy Minister Owais Leghari announced that Pakistan and Russia will begin a trial freight train service in March, marking a significant step in strengthening the economic and political ties between the two nations
Speaking about the growing bilateral relations, Leghari emphasized that Pakistan’s engagement with Russia is based on national interests, not influenced by external forces. “Our relationship with Russia is for Pakistan’s benefit and is not dictated by anyone,” he said, highlighting the independence of Pakistan’s foreign policy.
Leghari also rejected the idea of framing Pakistan-Russia ties within the context of East-West geopolitics. He made it clear that Pakistan remains open to collaborating with all countries to achieve mutual benefits, regardless of regional dynamics.
The minister further noted that both Russia and China are actively supporting Pakistan across various sectors, contributing to the country’s broader development objectives.
The upcoming trial freight train service is expected to serve as a crucial step toward increased connectivity and trade opportunities between the two countries, potentially opening doors for a new chapter in Pakistan-Russia relations.
