This festival’s fifth edition will run in different cities between September 12 and 30.
The European Film Festival (EUFF) is returning to Pakistan for its fifth edition this month, and this time it’s bringing its cinematic offerings to a brand new set of cities.
The European Union’s delegation to Pakistan, which is organising the festival, announced it will be running in Islamabad, Sialkot and Jamshoro between September 12 and 30.
The first stop, which has been a regular feature ever since EUFF debuted in Pakistan in 2021, is the Pakistan National Council of the Arts — better known as the PNCA — in Islamabad. The festival will be in town for two days on Sept 12 and 13.
The second stop, which is hosting the EUFF for the first time, is in Sialkot. Films will be screened at the Government College Women University and the Grid, a restaurant and event space. The festival will be held in Sialkot on Sept 16 and 17.
The third stop will bring the event to Sindh, where Jamshoro’s Shaheed Allah Buksh Soomro University of Art, Design and Heritage will be showcasing the festival’s offerings on Sept 29 and 30.
While the programmes for the stops this year have yet to be shared, last year’s event had a variety of films from across the European Union, including full-length features and short films. Each of the three stops last year — Islamabad, Karachi and Lahore — had separate film offerings and included a dedicated slot for children’s films.
It wasn’t just films either; last year’s EUFF brought with it a range of interactive installations to the host cities along with dramatic readings and its signature social dances. Curated food kiosks were also set up for visitors.
The festival last year was open to the public and did not charge any admission fee. It welcomed families, students, local artists, diplomats, and film enthusiasts to experience cinema as a tool of connection and conversation.
Earlier editions have also been held in Quetta, Peshawar, Gilgit, Faisalabad, Gujrat and Multan.
