CPIFA President Wu Ken, Director-General Wang Lei of the Foreign Affairs Office of the People’s Government of Hebei Province, and Li Huaxia, Member of the Working Committee of Xiong’an New Area of the CPC Hebei Provincial Committee and Director-General of the Publicity and Cyberspace Administration Bureau, attended the press conference and delivered remarks. The press conference was presided over by CPIFA Vice President Zou Xiaoli.
It was announced at the press conference that the 2026 Global Governance Forum (Xiong’an) will be held in Xiong’an New Area in Hebei on October 23-25, under the theme Rebuilding Confidence and Cooperation: Reforming and Improving Global Governance in a Transforming World.

Wu Ken said that the Forum will be hosted by the Chinese People’s Institute of Foreign Affairs, and co-organized by the People’s Government of Hebei Province, the Administrative Committee of Xiong’an New Area, the U.N. Association of China, the China Institute of International Studies, and China Foreign Affairs University. Personages from the political, strategic, academic, business and media circles and on youth affairs, particularly those in the fields of the U.N., climate change, artificial intelligence and multilateral trade, have been invited to attend the Forum. Wu Ken stated that President Xi Jinping proposed the Global Governance Initiative (GGI) at the “SCO Plus” Meeting in Tianjin in September 2025, and the GGI has received wide recognition and support from the international community. While attending the Meeting of the Group of Friends of Global Governance held in New York last May, Foreign Minister Wang Yi outlined, on behalf of the Chinese side, nine priorities for reforming global governance, and announced that China will host the Global Governance Forum in Xiong’an New Area this fall. The Forum aims to bring together personages across sectors to develop ideas for reforming and improving global governance, and explore specific pathways and solutions to turn conceptual consensus into concrete actions, to pool broader international consensus and bolster the confidence and resolve of the international community to stand together in overcoming difficulties and build a more just and equitable global governance system. By holding the Forum in Xiong’an New Area, we also hope for the world to learn about Xiong’an, and for Xiong’an to reach out to the world, further contributing to global governance with Chinese governance.
Wu Ken said that a central Chinese leader will attend the opening ceremony of the Forum and deliver a keynote speech, and representatives from the U.N. and other international organizations and institutions, foreign dignitaries, and academics will speak at the plenary session. The main activities of the Forum include the opening ceremony, the plenary session, 22 panel discussions/roundtables under five parallel sessions, and multiple side events, etc. During the Forum, delegates and the media will have the opportunity to visit a number of select projects and places in Xiong’an New Area.
Director-General Wang Lei and Director-General Li Huaxia respectively introduced the logistical preparations for the 2026 Global Governance Forum (Xiong’an) and the achievements made in the construction and development of Xiong’an New Area, and extended a welcome to all participants to attend the Forum.
