Special units have been established to prevent “anti-state propaganda and fake news”, while cyber patrolling units have been made functional in all regions for monitoring of cyberspace, the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA)said on Sunday.

According to a spokesman for the agency, the measures were reviewed during a five-day tour of all circles in Punjab by Director General Syed Ali Nasir Rizvi, who also inspected reporting centres, police stations and offices and held direct meetings with more than 500 complainants.

The NCCIA DG directed that the complaints and verification system be made more people-friendly and that all resources be utilised to provide prompt justice to the masses.

He said that the agency had adopted a zero-tolerance policy against fake news and anti-state propaganda and that there would be no compromise on merit and transparency.

Throughout the tour, the DG stressed timely justice for victims of cybercrime, transparency and merit-based investigation, and directed officers to further improve overall performance, disposal of complaints and record maintenance.

During the visit, he reviewed the overall working of the circle, pendency of complaints and cases, working of the investigation branch, complaint cell, FIR branch, maintenance of records, and other administrative and professional matters.

He issued instructions for further improving performance, disposal, and record maintenance.
