Pakistan is aiming to expand its meat exports to Malaysia to $200 million, as the government pushes for enhanced competitiveness and supply chain efficiency in the sector, according to the Press Release.

Chairing the 3rd Meeting of the Pakistan-Malaysia Meat Export Committee, Commerce Minister Jam Kamal Khan directed the formation of a working group to finalize a strategy and present a report within a week.

He emphasized that provincial governments of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan must also be engaged in the process to meet the ambitious export goal.

The committee, also attended by Minister for Food Security Rana Tanvir Hussain and SAPM Haroon Akhtar Khan, reviewed pricing mechanisms, comparative costs with India, and logistical efficiency to strengthen Pakistan’s position in the Malaysian market.

Participants discussed CNF (Cost & Freight) pricing, buffalo and cow meat supply chains, and the importance of maintaining strict quality control from farm to slaughterhouse.

Malaysia’s preference for buffaloes aged 14–18 months was highlighted as a key compliance requirement for exporters.

The forum also explored ways to tackle high electricity and operational costs, promote technology upgrades in processing facilities, and introduce incentives for private exporters to ensure sustainable growth.

It was concluded that a combination of public sector support and private sector participation will be critical to improving production efficiency, reducing costs, and securing Pakistan’s long-term position in the Malaysian meat market.
