The Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) will hold a meeting of its Contact Group on Afghanistan on the sidelines of the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly.
According to the OIC General Secretariat, the meeting will be held in New York with the participation of members of the Contact Group on Afghanistan as part of the organization’s scheduled activities.
In a statement, the OIC said: “The General Secretariat of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation will also organize meetings of several ministerial contact groups and specialized committees, including the Contact Group on Afghanistan.”
The Contact Group on Afghanistan is one of several OIC contact groups and specialized working groups scheduled to convene on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly.
Although further details about the meeting have not been made public, the first meeting of the OIC Contact Group on Afghanistan emphasized the need for practical support and meaningful dialogue to promote stability in Afghanistan.
Faridullah Zazai, a political affairs expert, said: “In my view, this meeting is important for Afghanistan and shows that the issue of Afghanistan remains a priority for the region and the international community. It would be better if these meetings were accompanied by practical steps and coordinated with the current authorities as well.”
The first meeting of the OIC Contact Group on Afghanistan was held on 2 Mizan 1404 (23 September 2025) on the sidelines of the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York.
