New Subject Introduced in Islamabad Schools and Colleges

Artificial Intelligence will be introduced as a formal subject in schools and colleges of Islamabad from the upcoming academic session, starting in April.

According to the National Curriculum Council, students in classes six to eight will have the option to choose between computer science and Artificial Intelligence, while students in classes nine to twelve will be able to opt for Artificial Intelligence as an elective subject.

Students from nursery to class five will study the subject as a non-credit course without examinations. The education ministry said the National Curriculum Council has finalized and notified the Artificial Intelligence and Robotics curriculum for grades one to twelve in consultation with provinces.

The curriculum aims to build skills in computational thinking, intelligent systems, robotics, ethical use of technology, and problem-solving.

Officials said the new curriculum will be implemented in Islamabad from April, while provinces will decide whether to adopt it. The Federal Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education will also include Artificial Intelligence in its examinations.
