Israeli land network faces law

Criminal probe begins in Pattaya

What legal actions are being prepared against Israeli nationals in Pattaya?

Authorities are preparing legal action against a suspected network of Israeli nationals involved in a large-scale land-holding scheme in Pattaya, Chon Buri. This investigation is being conducted as part of a broader effort to combat transnational crime.

The Department of Special Investigation is currently gathering evidence to launch an operation within the month, with a focus on the high value of the damages involved. Investigators are specifically looking into the use of nominee structures, where Thai nationals are allegedly used to conceal foreign ownership of land and businesses. Recent raids at locations such as a Pattaya law firm and a condominium in Bang Lamung have already resulted in the seizure of documents and computers linked to suspected violations of the Foreign Business Act 1999.

How much money is involved in online scam operations?

The total amount of money involved in online scam operations varies significantly depending on the specific timeframe and type of fraud being reported. While individual weekly losses for reported online scams have been documented around 177 million to 433 million baht, authorities have also intercepted much larger transaction volumes, such as 2.89 billion baht in a single week.

Different types of scams account for varying levels of financial damage. For instance, investment and job scams have been noted to cause the highest losses, while online shopping and service scams are often the most frequent. In one specific instance, an investment scheme involving cryptocurrency resulted in a combined loss of 1.37 billion baht.
