Federal Minister for Finance and Revenue Senator Muhammad Aurangzeb has called for stronger private-sector engagement between Pakistan and New Zealand to attract investment and expand bilateral trade.
The minister made the remarks during a meeting with New Zealand High Commissioner-designate David Pine in Islamabad on Wednesday. The meeting focused on bilateral relations, trade, investment and ways to strengthen economic cooperation.
Pine congratulated Aurangzeb on Pakistan’s successful return to international capital markets following its recent Eurobond issuance and acknowledged progress on macroeconomic stability and economic reforms.
He also briefed the finance minister on New Zealand’s plans to deepen engagement with Pakistan and the wider South Asian region.
Aurangzeb said Pakistan had made progress toward macroeconomic stability and that the government’s focus was now shifting toward investment, exports, employment generation and sustainable economic growth.
He stressed that policy continuity, fiscal discipline and structural reforms would remain key to maintaining the country’s economic progress.
The two sides also discussed increasing business-to-business (B2B) engagement between Pakistan and New Zealand.
Pine emphasized the need for businesses in both countries to establish direct connections and explore areas of mutual commercial interest.
He also expressed New Zealand’s interest in holding more regular bilateral trade discussions to identify and resolve trade-related issues as they arise.
