The Chinese Embassy in Pakistan held a symposium to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the birth of former Chinese President Jiang Zemin, with Pakistani officials, former diplomats, academics and representatives of the Chinese community highlighting his contributions to China’s development and Pakistan-China relations.
The symposium was held on Aug. 17 and attended by Shi Yuanqiang, Chargé d’Affaires of the Chinese Embassy in Pakistan, along with Pakistani guests including Zafar Uddin Mahmood, Special Representative to the Prime Minister of Pakistan on China Affairs, Akram Sheikh, former Deputy Chairman of Pakistan’s Planning Commission, and former Pakistani ambassadors to China.
Representatives from Pakistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, think tanks and the overseas Chinese community also attended the event.
Speaking at the symposium, Shi Yuanqiang said Chinese President Xi Jinping had delivered an important speech at a gathering commemorating the centenary of Jiang Zemin’s birth, highlighting Jiang’s contributions to the Communist Party of China and the Chinese people.
Shi Yuanqiang said Jiang Zemin had always attached importance to Pakistan-China relations and worked to promote the development of bilateral ties.
The Chinese diplomat said China was ready to work with Pakistan to write a new chapter in the two countries’ All-Weather Strategic Cooperative Partnership.
Pakistani participants described Jiang Zemin as an outstanding Chinese leader who made significant contributions to China’s reform and opening-up as well as the country’s modernization.
The Pakistani speakers also recognized Jiang Zemin’s role in promoting Pakistan-China relations and expressed Pakistan’s readiness to work with China to further strengthen bilateral ties and build a better future for the two countries.
The symposium brought together government officials, diplomats, think tank representatives and members of the Chinese community, providing an opportunity to recall Jiang Zemin’s legacy and discuss the continued development of Pakistan-China relations.
