- 5h ago (23:40 GMT)Only one-third of Gaza left to live in: UNThe UN warned Israel’s latest evacuation orders are leaving Palestinians with shrinking space to survive in Gaza and further worsening the humanitarian crisis. In a news conference, UN spokesperson Stephane Dujarric said Israel on Friday issued “two new displacement orders covering vast areas in northern and southern Gaza”.“Several medical facilities and storage sites containing critical supplies are located within newly designated displacement zones,” he added.Dujarric warned of “life-threatening consequences”.“With this latest development, OCHA reports that more than two-thirds of the Gaza Strip is either under active displacement orders or designated as no-go zones. This leaves Palestinians with less than a third of Gaza’s area to live in, and that remaining space is fragmented.”Click here to share on social media

Court ruling on Mahmoud Khalil sets ‘dangerous precedent’The decision by a US immigration judge that the deportation case against Mahmoud Khalil can proceed sets a dangerous precedent, with wider implications on freedom of speech, civil rights lawyer Edward Ahmed Mitchell has told Al Jazeera.“[Permanent] residents are almost never deported unless they have committed a serious crime,” Mitchell said. “Now the government is saying that if you are an immigrant of any legal status whatsoever and you say something the government dislikes regarding foreign policy, they can kick you out.”The lawyer said the judge’s decision cited a law from the 1950s that has never been used to deport anyone. “Ironically, it was briefly ruled unconstitutional years ago by Trump’s sister, who was a federal judge at the time,” Mitchell said.“It’s a bad law in itself, but it’s also being enforced in an unconstitutional way by the administration.”Click here to share on social media

It did not specify how many people that included or if the firings had begun.Nearly 1,000 Israeli air force reservists and retirees signed the letter, published in Israeli media Thursday, demanding the immediate return of captives held in Gaza – even at the cost of ending the fighting.Click here to share on social mediaAdvertisement

The Israeli prime minister has already lashed out at these expressions of protest, calling them “bad weeds” motivated and funded by liberal Zionists abroad who are opposed to his government. The noise is aimed at US President Donald Trump at the White House. Many believe he is the only person who can compel Netanyahu to stop the bombing and reach a deal so the 59 captives can be returned home. This is not about the war really, but about Netanyahu’s politics and the fact that many Israelis are simply fed up with it.
