With a ceasefire agreement now inked, our work becomes even more critical. Because much of the media will shift their attention away from Gaza once the bombing stops, Drop Site’s work will become that much more important when it comes to making sure the parties abide by the terms of the ceasefire. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is already insisting he has other intentions.
Just as importantly, as the world gets a deeper understanding of the scale of the crime committed in Gaza, it will be more important than ever to pursue accountability journalism. Our track record shows that our reporting gets results – sparking war crimes investigations in multiple countries and playing a role in international arrest warrants.
Just this week, acting on evidence partially sourced from Drop Site’s reporting, the Hind Rajab Foundation alerted Italian authorities about the presence of IDF Major General Ghassan Alian, Head of COGAT, currently in Rome. Alian oversaw the total blockade of Gaza, weaponizing famine and targeting civilian infrastructure, including hospitals, in acts amounting to genocide, war crimes, and crimes against humanity. Earlier this year, our journalist Younis Tirawi’s investigation led to war crimes investigations being opened in South Africa and Belgium against dual citizens serving in the Israeli military. Israeli soldiers on vacation in Brazil, Sweden, and elsewhere have similarly faced the risk of arrest for war crimes, though so far they have all managed to escape back to Israel.
Now is not the time to let the pressure up.
This work comes at great risk. Our recent investigation into Israel’s 749 Combat Engineering Battalion revealed how soldiers celebrated the destruction of Al-Azhar University, broadcasting their actions with the caption “Goodbye to higher education in Gaza.” When they filmed themselves demolishing homes while chanting “May your village burn,” our reporting ensured these acts were documented and brought to the attention of international human rights organizations and legal authorities.

The Israeli military knows the power of our reporting. That’s why, according to Israel’s Channel 13, they’ve implemented censorship specifically to dodge accountability for war crimes. But as long as perpetrators continue to document their own actions, Drop Site will be there to expose their crimes and ensure this evidence reaches those pursuing justice.
The coming months will be crucial for building cases against those responsible for these atrocities. We need your support to ensure that when the headlines fade, the work of accountability continues. Each investigation we publish, each piece of evidence we document, brings us closer to justice for the victims of these crimes.
