PIA’s fleet modernization and Pakistan’s broader aviation-sector cooperation were discussed during a meeting between Federal Minister for Finance and Revenue Senator Muhammad Aurangzeb and Dr. Brendan Nelson, President of Boeing Global, on the sidelines of the 81st Session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA).
The Finance Minister welcomed Boeing’s confirmation that a revised proposal for the acquisition of new aircraft would be shared with PIA. Both sides also discussed exploring earlier aircraft delivery slots and interim leasing arrangements.
The discussions also covered financing support from the US Export-Import Bank, engine procurement, spare parts, maintenance and the restoration of grounded aircraft.
Senator Muhammad Aurangzeb outlined PIA’s privatization process and plans to outsource the management of major airports. He also appreciated Boeing’s support for aviation-safety capacity, regulatory engagement and the restoration of direct flights to the United States.
The Finance Minister emphasized Pakistan’s strong long-term potential for growth in the aviation sector.
