Lebanon’s Interior and Municipalities Minister Ahmad al-Hajjar called on Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif on Monday, according to a statement issued by the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO).
Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Muhammad Ishaq Dar, Interior Minister Syed Mohsin Raza Naqvi, Housing Minister Riaz Hussain Pirzada, and Minister of State for Interior Talal Chaudhry were also present during the meeting, the PMO said.
Welcoming the Lebanese minister, the prime minister emphasised the importance of the longstanding fraternal relations between the two countries and extended good wishes to the Lebanese leadership.
The meeting reviewed bilateral relations and mutual cooperation between Pakistan and Lebanon, with both sides expressing satisfaction over growing cooperation in the fields of interior affairs and security.
The prime minister strongly condemned Israeli aggression against Lebanon, expressing deep grief and sorrow over the loss of precious human lives and property caused by Israeli attacks.
He reiterated the full solidarity of the Pakistani government and people with the Lebanese leadership and people during these difficult times, and reaffirmed Pakistan’s continued support for Lebanon’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.
The Lebanese interior minister thanked the prime minister for the warm welcome and reaffirmed Lebanon’s commitment to strengthening bilateral cooperation with Pakistan.
The prime minister later attended a signing ceremony for a memorandum of understanding (MoU) between Pakistan and Lebanon on the transfer of sentenced persons, signed by the interior ministers of both countries. The MoU provides a legal mechanism for convicted citizens to serve the remainder of their sentences in their home country, the PMO said.
