One Qatari vessel has cleared the Strait of Hormuz and is due by Thursday, while another is expected to follow in the coming days
Pakistan is set to receive two LNG shipments from Qatar after failing to secure a September cargo from the spot market, offering some relief from supply pressures caused by disruptions around the Strait of Hormuz.
The country did not award its latest LNG tender on Tuesday after receiving no offers from suppliers, Bloomberg reported on Wednesday, pointing to continued tightness in the international market.
However, contracted supplies from Qatar are beginning to move towards Pakistan.
The Al Marrouna, carrying Qatari LNG, crossed the Strait of Hormuz earlier this week and is scheduled to arrive in Pakistan by Thursday, according to ship-tracking data cited by Bloomberg.
Another Qatari LNG vessel is expected to transit the strait in the coming days before proceeding to Pakistan, the report said, citing traders familiar with the shipments.
The incoming cargoes could limit Pakistan’s immediate requirement for replacement LNG from the spot market, where the country has faced difficulty securing supplies at viable prices.
Pakistan has been seeking emergency LNG following disruptions to its contracted Qatari supplies after renewed hostilities affected shipping through the Strait of Hormuz.
Qatar declared force majeure after the disruption, while a cargo scheduled for delivery to Pakistan in July 2026 was cancelled. The supply interruption left authorities looking at spot LNG purchases and alternative fuels to bridge the shortfall.
The latest vessel movements indicate that at least some Qatari LNG supplies are again making their way through the key shipping route.
Pakistan depends on long-term contracts with Qatar for a significant portion of its LNG requirements, limiting its exposure to spot-market prices during normal supply conditions.
