A key meeting was held under the chairmanship of Peshawar Division Commissioner Riaz Khan Mehsud to discuss the establishment of a new international airport in Peshawar and the relocation of the existing Bacha Khan International Airport to a safer location. The meeting reviewed the initial groundwork and potential sites for the project.
Participants were informed that around 2,500 acres of land would be required for the new international airport, and that the site must be secure, suitable, and located away from densely populated areas.

Officials emphasized that the current airport’s location within the urban limits is causing issues related to traffic congestion, security, and an increasing population, making the relocation of the airport necessary.
Potential sites under consideration include Matani, Azakhel, Swairzai, Mamun Khatki, Naguman, and Bara Aka Khel.
After a detailed assessment of these locations, recommendations for the most suitable site will soon be submitted to the Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and the Chief Secretary.
KP regional focus
The Commissioner directed the Deputy Commissioner, Peshawar, to form a committee headed by the Additional Deputy Commissioner (General).
The committee will include officials from the Revenue Department, Pakistan Airports Authority, and other relevant institutions. It will conduct a detailed survey of the proposed sites, complete the initial groundwork, and prepare recommendations.
Another meeting will be held after three weeks to review progress on the project. The Commissioner instructed that the initial groundwork be completed soon and submitted to higher authorities for approval.
Among those who attended the meeting were Deputy Commissioner Peshawar Captain (Retd.) Sanaullah, Additional Director, Strategic and Planning, Syed Hamid Hussain Shah, Additional Director, Headquarters, Shehzad Asghar, and other officials from the Pakistan Airports Authority.
