Commuters using Pakistan Railways are set to see a major improvement in their travel experience as a comprehensive infrastructure upgrade gets underway at Lahore Railway Station.

The Punjab government has approved the development of a new parking facility, improved access roads, and a landscaped park to address long-standing congestion issues around the station.

Officials say the project has been designed to tackle one of the station’s biggest challenges: overcrowding and traffic jams caused by inadequate parking and poor access planning.

Once completed, the new parking area will be able to accommodate 250 to 300 vehicles, allowing passengers to reach the station quickly instead of being stuck in queues for extended periods.

A key feature of the plan is the construction of a dedicated bridge that will provide direct entry to the railway station for passengers arriving specifically to catch trains. Additional link roads will connect the station to major arteries of Lahore, while separate routes are being developed to divert non-railway traffic.

Deputy Director of the Lahore Development Authority, Faisal Shafeeh, said the project is moving forward as planned and will be completed within the set timeline.

He added that the redesigned traffic flow will allow thousands of passengers to access the station without obstruction, significantly easing pressure on surrounding roads.

Beyond external improvements, the station itself has already seen upgrades. New family and VIP lounges are now functional, offering improved seating and food services for passengers and their accompanying relatives.

Once the entire project is completed later this year, authorities expect Lahore Railway Station to become more accessible, less congested, and visually appealing.
