DISCOs have sharply increased their purchase of electricity from net metering consumers.

According to official documents seen by ProPakistani, there has been a total procurement of 573.7 million units over the past four months. This growth comes despite proposals to reduce the net metering tariff, and has played a direct role in lowering monthly Fuel Charge Adjustments for all consumers.

The fuel cost of electricity generated by net metering consumers is effectively zero, and this zero-cost input has been factored into the latest FCA determinations issued by NEPRA. Officials noted that the rising share of net metering units has eased overall fuel costs for power companies and provided relief across consumer categories.

Month-wise data shows DISCOs purchased 115.095 million units in July, 111.4 million in August, and 142.6 million in September, with October recording the highest procurement among the four months.

MEPCO led with 157.764 million units purchased, followed by IESCO at 139.7 million and LESCO at 134.255 million units. GEPCO procured 57.6 million, while FESCO bought 46.5 million units.

PESCO purchased 26 million units, HESCO 37 million units, another 39 million units under HESCO’s net metering inflow, and SEPCO 16.5 million units. Qesco recorded procurement of 17.4 million units, while TESCO bought 590,000 units during the same period.

Officials said the rising contribution of solar-fed net metering is emerging as a major factor in monthly fuel cost stability, even as national debate continues over revising net metering tariffs.
