The Oxford Pakistan Programme (OPP) marked a significant achievement at its annual fundraising dinner held at Lady Margaret Hall, where it secured funding commitments for three new scholarships and a £100,000 contribution to its endowment fund aimed at supporting Pakistan’s most promising students.
Interloop Ltd, one of Pakistan’s top exporters, pledged to sponsor a scholarship for three consecutive years. The company was represented by businessman and philanthropist Musadaq Zulqarnain.
Additionally, British Pakistani donors Munir Hussain—owner of one of the UK’s largest food chains—and Aneel Musarrat committed to fully fund graduate scholarships through the OPP for the next five years.
These scholarships will help high-achieving Pakistani students pursue advanced studies at the University of Oxford in areas such as computer science, mathematics, genome medicine, and theoretical physics.
Supporting the programme’s long-term goals, Professor Sarwar Khawaja donated £100,000 to strengthen the OPP’s endowment fund.
The evening event, sponsored by Oxford alumni Dr Omer Suleman and Shamyl Malik—co-founders of fintech firm Haruko—brought together academics, philanthropists, and programme supporters.
Since its launch, the OPP has provided nearly £1 million in funding to 52 students from regions like Sindh, Balochistan, and South Punjab. The programme’s founders emphasized the urgency of expanding educational access in Pakistan, where over two-thirds of the population is under 30.
