Pakistan Railways to Resume Major Train Service After 15 Years

Federal Minister for Railways Hanif Abbasi on Tuesday announced that the Bulleh Shah Express between Kasur and Pakpattan will resume service on May 28. The train service had remained suspended since November 15, 2011.

The announcement came after a meeting at the Ministry of Railways with Punjab Assembly Speaker Malik Mohammad Ahmed Khan and Minister of State Malik Rashid Ahmed Khan. The meeting reviewed travel issues and development matters affecting residents of Kasur district and nearby areas.

During the meeting, participants presented a request to restore the 257-Up/258-Down Bulleh Shah Passenger Train. Hanif Abbasi approved the proposal and confirmed that the service between Kasur and Pakpattan would be restarted.

The Bulleh Shah Express route passes through Kasur, Usmanwala, Kanganpur, Mandi Ahmed Abad, Basirpur, and Haveli Wasavewala before reaching Pakpattan. Hanif Abbasi said restoring the train service would provide affordable and reliable travel facilities for residents and support economic activity in the region.

The railways minister also announced plans for the beautification and upgradation of Kasur Railway Station to improve passenger facilities. In addition, in-principle approval was given to provide a stop for the Tezgam Express at Kot Radha Kishan to facilitate local passengers.
