Pakistan Announces $1 Billion AI Investment to Build National Tech Infrastructure

The Federal Government of Pakistan has announced a $1 billion investment in Artificial Intelligence (AI) through the Ministry of IT and Telecom Pakistan, marking a major step toward strengthening the country’s technological capabilities.

In its initial phase, the government will focus on building core infrastructure, particularly computing power and Graphics Processing Units (GPUs), which are essential for running advanced AI systems.

These resources will be made available to businesses, startups, and researchers, enabling them to adopt and develop AI technologies across multiple sectors. The government has emphasized that ensuring access to such infrastructure is critical for supporting innovation and accelerating research and development.

The investment will be managed through the Ignite National Technology Fund, which operates under the Ministry of IT and Telecommunication. The fund is responsible for promoting technological growth in Pakistan by supporting both emerging and established players in the tech industry.

Officials said a key goal of the initiative is to provide affordable access to high-performance computing. By lowering financial barriers, the government aims to expand participation in AI development and allow more industries and institutions to benefit from these technologies.
