Asim downed Hong Kong’s Matthew Lai 3-1 in a 40-minute contest, with game scores of 5-11, 11-4, 11-9, 11-5.
“I was under pressure after losing the first game as I am playing in a tournament after a long time,” Asim said. “But still I can win, so I feel good.”
Veteran Nasir Iqbal continued his strong run, beating Egypt’s Yassin Shohdy 11-9, 11-5, 11-3.
In other second-round matches, Egypt’s Salman Khalil defeated Malaysia’s Yee Xian Siow 11-8, 11-6, 11-4 in 36 minutes, while compatriot Mohammed Naseer overcame Japan’s Naoki Hayashi 3-1 with scores of 6-11, 11-8, 11-8, 12-10 in 47 minutes.
