AIPAC’s $30 million wasn’t enough

We followed the money. Michigan voters saw it — and rejected it.

As primary results from last night roll in and with midterms around the corner, Drop Site stories are consistently finding their way to the center of the conversation. In cities and districts across the country, our reporting on AIPAC’s secret money networks is at the front of voters’ minds as they cast their ballots.

In Michigan, Abdul El-Sayed won the Democratic nomination for Senate, William Lawrence secured the nomination in the 7th Congressional District, and Donavan McKinney unseated Rep. Shri Thanedar in the 13th District. Michigan is notable not only as a battleground state, but because of the direct influence AIPAC tried to buy there.

AIPAC spent more than $30 million trying to defeat El-Sayed and elect Haley Stevens — an effort to protect a self-described “proud pro-Israel Democrat” who famously said, “Israel comes to me in my dreams.” El-Sayed won anyway. Drop Site covered that spending in real time, tracing where the money came from and what it was being used to shield.

Those trying to buy our elections are banking on anonymity. We’re asking you to make sure they can’t hide. For less than $0.25 a day, your subscription funds the time and resources we need to follow the money and expose AIPAC.
