{"id":9653,"date":"2024-10-29T14:28:38","date_gmt":"2024-10-29T14:28:38","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/gsrra.com\/?p=9653"},"modified":"2024-10-29T14:28:39","modified_gmt":"2024-10-29T14:28:39","slug":"pakistan-once-again-seeks-russias-support-to-become-brics-member","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/gsrra.com\/?p=9653","title":{"rendered":"Pakistan once again seeks Russia&#8217;s support to become BRICS member"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong><em>Pakistan had applied for BRICS membership last year in November<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Pakistan has once again sought Russia&#8217;s support to become a member of BRICS as the two countries reiterated to strengthen bilateral relations.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to a statement by the&nbsp;President Secretariat, the request came during the meeting between President Asif Ali Zardari and the visiting Parliamentary delegation led by Russian Federation Council speaker Valentina Matvienko at Aiwan-e-Sadr.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The statement added that Zardari sought Moscow&#8217;s backing for BRICS membership that would immensely aid his country in enhancing its role in regional and global cooperation through the alliance.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Pakistan had applied for BRICS membership last year in November.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>At a recent media briefing, Foreign Office spokesperson Mumtaz Zehra Baloch said Pakistan was not invited to the BRICS meeting held recently.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cPakistan is not a member of BRICS. Pakistan, as a developing country and an ardent supporter of inclusive multilateralism, believes that it can make important contributions in this grouping,\u201d she added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The spokesperson further said that by joining BRICS, Pakistan can play an important role in furthering international cooperation and revitalization of inclusive multilateralism.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>BRICS, the group of major emerging economies, is named after Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The bloc last year invited Saudi Arabia, Iran, Ethiopia, Egypt, Argentina, and the United Arab Emirates to become members, in a move aimed at accelerating its push to reshuffle a world order it sees as outdated.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Bilateral ties<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>In the meeting between President Zardari and the Russian delegation, both sides also expressed resolve to boost ties in the areas of trade, commerce, investment, agriculture, and energy for the mutual benefit of the two countries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The official statement said both sides underscored the importance of diversifying trade and economic cooperation, besides enhancing regional connectivity and commercial relations through the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) and the North-South Transport Corridor.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.thenews.com.pk\/assets\/uploads\/updates\/2024-10-28\/1244937_7549048_Untitled-design-(42)_updates.jpg\" alt=\"President Asif Zardari in a group photo with the Russian delegation led by the Speaker of the Russian Federation Council Valentina Matvienko at Aiwan-e-Sadar on October 28, 2024. \u2014 PID\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">President Asif Zardari in a group photo with the Russian delegation led by the Speaker of the Russian Federation Council Valentina Matvienko at Aiwan-e-Sadar on October 28, 2024. \u2014 PID<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>The Russian speaker emphasized that her country accorded priority to its relationship with Pakistan and expressed confidence that her visit would further enhance bilateral cooperation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>She hoped that the signing of a memorandum of understanding between the parliaments of the two countries would further deepen bilateral relations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>She expressed satisfaction over the growth in bilateral trade and also conveyed the special greetings from President Putin.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Parliamentary cooperation<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Earlier today, Senate Chairman Yousuf Raza Gilani and the Russian speaker also signed an MoU on behalf of the parliaments of the two countries to strengthen bilateral relations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>On the occasion, Gilani said that the Russian speaker\u2019s visit would be a stepping stone toward a brighter future of cooperation between Pakistan and Russia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He welcomed Matvienko and her high-level delegation at the Senate of Pakistan and hoped that we had much to learn from each other\u2019s experiences.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The presence of our esteemed guests from the Russian Federation is not only a testament to the strengthening friendship between our two nations but also a reminder of our collective commitment to nurturing parliamentary ties, he mentioned.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He added: \u201cToday\u2019s address of Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation Valentina Matvienko to the Senate of Pakistan represents another important step in strengthening the growing ties between Pakistan and Russia; two nations connected by a shared commitment to regional stability, peace, and prosperity.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Matvienko also expressed her satisfaction with the growing bilateral ties, underscoring the ample scope for deepening these historic relations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Beginning her address to the Senate, Mitvineko expressed her gratitude for visiting Pakistan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cOn behalf of the entire Russian delegation, let me sincerely thank you for the hospitality and wonderful reception you have accorded us in Pakistan, and for the opportunity to speak in the Senate.
