<\/a>Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and Turkiye will hold their first meeting under the Makkah Joint Defence Agreement in Istanbul on Monday, the Foreign Office (FO) confirmed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In a statement, the FO said the \u201cinaugural meeting of the Strategic Political and Defence Committee established under the Makkah Joint Defence Agreement (Makkah Accord)\u201d will be held in the Turkish capital.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Pakistan will be represented at the meeting by Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, Defence Minister Khawaja Asif, and Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) and army chief Field Marshal Asim Munir.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The meeting will also be attended by the respective foreign and defence ministers, as well as the chiefs of general staff of Turkiye and Saudi Arabia, according to FO.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cPakistan\u2019s participation in the meeting signifies Pakistan\u2019s historic bonds of friendship with the brotherly countries of Turkiye and Saudi Arabia, as well as its desire for lasting regional peace and stability,\u201d the statement highlighted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Chief of the Army Staff Munir arrived \u201cin Turkiye on an official visit\u201d, Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said in a brief statement issued in the evening.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In its statement, Turkiye said FM Hakan Fidan, Defence Minister Yasar Guler and Chief of Turkish General Staff Gen Selcuk Bayraktaroglu will participate in the meeting.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

<\/a>\u2018Continued strengthening\u2019 of Pak-Turkiye ties<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Earlier in the day, FM Dar reached Istanbul after concluding his visit to the United Kingdom.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He then held a meeting with FM Fidan, with both sides expressing \u201csatisfaction at the continued strengthening and expansion of bilateral relations in the political, economic, security and cultural domains\u201d, FO said on X.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The foreign ministers welcomed the progress achieved under the framework of the Pakistan\u2013T\u00fcrkiye High-Level Strategic Cooperation Council (HLSCC) and agreed on the early convening of its next session.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe two sides also exchanged views on issues of regional and international importance and reaffirmed their commitment to continue working closely for regional peace and stability,\u201d the statement read.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Special Secretary (United Nations) Nabeel Munir, Director General (UN) Umar Siddique, First Secretary Qazi Saleem, and Deputy Director to the Foreign Minister Agha Hunain also joined Dar for the meeting.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Upon his arrival in Istanbul, Dar was received by Turkish Deputy Chief of Staff for Administration Brig. General Senol Varol, Pakistan\u2019s Ambassador to Turkiye Dr Yousaf Junaid, Ambassador Cihad Erginay of the Turkish foreign ministry, and other senior officials of the Turkish government, FO said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The deputy premier later visited the shrine of Hazrat Abu Ayyub Ansari (RA) to pay his respects. He offered prayers for the peace and prosperity of Pakistan and its people, as well as for the Muslim community\u2019s unity, FO said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Earlier this month, Turkiye\u2019s Fidan had also invited Dar<\/a> to the Regional-4 meeting in Istanbul, which includes the three countries part of the defence pact, along with Egypt.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dar had confirmed his participation in the meeting, which was scheduled to take place in August, FO had said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The R-4 group has been focused on regional security and emerged in March amid efforts for mediation between the US and Iran.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The last R-4 meeting was held on August 5 in Amman<\/a>, where the ministers \u201creaffirmed the importance of continued consultation and close coordination among the four countries in advancing regional stability\u201d, according to FO.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Prior to that, a Cairo meeting held in June welcomed the signing of the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding between the US and Iran. The first and second R-4 meetings \u2014 both held in March \u2014 took place in Riyadh and Islamabad<\/a>, respectively.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

<\/a>UK visit wrapped up<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

In an earlier statement, FO said DPM Dar \u201cconcluded a successful official visit to the UK\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

During his trip, Dar met several officials, including UK Foreign Secretary Ed Miliband, Minister of State for Pakistan Stephen Doughty, National Security Adviser Jonathan Powell, International Maritime Organisation (IMO) Secretary General Arsenio Dominguez and Commonwealth Secretary General Shirley Ayorkor Botchwey.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The deputy premier also interacted with British parliamentarians of Pakistani origin and the Pakistani diaspora in the UK.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
