Despite multiple cases against her,&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/world\/asia-pacific\/bangladeshs-hasina-plans-december-return-with-party-colleagues-surrender-2026-07-10\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Hasina told Reuters<\/a>&nbsp;in an interview that she plans to return to Bangladesh \u200bin December.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8220;We are moving forward with India with a forward-looking approach. We don&#8217;t want that progress to be affected,&#8221; Bangladesh&#8217;s State Minister for Foreign Affairs Shama Obaed Islam told reporters late on Monday. &#8220;India has to be clear about its \u200bstance.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The FCCSA said Hasina, 78, will address the New Delhi event by video link alongside her \u200bson, Sajeeb Wazed Joy, and other speakers. The club did not immediately respond to requests for comment on the Bangladesh \u200cgovernment&#8217;s \u2060concerns.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Islam said Bangladesh had repeatedly conveyed its concerns to India over Hasina and other Awami League leaders making political statements from Indian soil.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8220;We do not want India-Bangladesh relations to be harmed by statements from fugitive accused individuals,&#8221; she said, adding that India had previously indicated it did not expect fugitives to \u200bengage in political activities from \u200bits territory.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">While stressing \u2060that the event was not organised by the Indian government, Islam said Dhaka would raise the matter through diplomatic channels if necessary.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">There was no immediate response \u200bfrom the Indian foreign ministry.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Relations between the neighbours have been strained since \u200bHasina&#8217;s removal from \u2060power, although both sides have recently signalled a willingness to rebuild ties through greater engagement and cooperation since Tarique Rahman&#8217;s government took office after February&#8217;s election.<video muted=\"\" poster=\"https:\/\/ajo.prod.reuters.tv\/api\/v2\/img\/6a70ca93e4b016e68daf6643\" src=\"blob:https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/354a230d-a8db-4296-a8ca-e3ae5b68e583\"><\/video><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Next Video\" src=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/world\/asia-pacific\/bangladesh-asks-india-clarify-stance-hasinas-planned-new-delhi-speech-2026-08-04\/\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">but they didn&#8217;t have a physician of their own present, so they weren&#8217;t<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Hasina has remained in India since her government was overthrown \u2060after weeks \u200bof deadly protests. Bangladesh has since sought her extradition, and \u200bin 2025 she was&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/world\/asia-pacific\/bangladeshs-ousted-pm-hasina-convicted-students-crackdown-case-2025-11-17\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">sentenced<\/a>&nbsp;to death for crimes against humanity over the 2024 crackdown, which the United Nations estimated killed up to \u200b1,400 people.
