Iran\u2019s supreme leader calls for \u2018absolute, unconditional termination\u2019 of Israel\u2019s attacks on Lebanon amid reports of renewed diplomacy.<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

<\/a>Iranian Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei has said that peace between Tehran and Washington is contingent on Israel stopping its attacks on Lebanon.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Khamenei made the statement in a post on X on Sunday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Iran \u201chas designated the preservation of Lebanon\u2019s territorial integrity, and the absolute, unconditional termination of the Zionist regime\u2019s aggression as the primary condition for any agreement to ending the imposed war against the aggressive US\u201d, he wrote.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Khamenei also voiced his support for the Lebanese group Hezbollah, its former leader, Hassan Nasrallah, and the people of southern Lebanon \u2013 the focal point of Israel\u2019s attacks \u2013 in a series of posts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe Islamic Republic of Iran considers the defense of these oppressed yet powerful mujahideen [of Hezbollah] to be its strategic mandate,\u201d Khamenei said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Khamenei\u2019s intervention comes amid reports of a halt to attacks and renewed diplomacy<\/a> between Iran and the United States.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Tehran has insisted that Israel must end its strikes on Lebanon as a condition for Iran ending the war with the US, enshrining that demand in the first clause of the memorandum of understanding it signed with Washington in June.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The agreement has since collapsed amid a dispute over the Strait of Hormuz.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
