Israeli settlers\u2019 storming of Islam\u2019s holy site fuels \u2018hatred\u2019 and obstructs lasting peace, joint statement says.<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Eight Arab and Muslim-majority countries have strongly condemned the storming of the Al-Aqsa Mosque compound in occupied East Jerusalem by far-right groups and thousands of Israeli settlers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In a joint statement issued on Thursday, the foreign ministers of Egypt, Indonesia, Jordan, Pakistan, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Turkiye, and the United Arab Emirates denounced the \u201cmass incursions by settlers led by extremist Israeli ministers into the Noble Sanctuary\u201d of Al-Aqsa.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The diplomats underscored that the storming of Islam\u2019s third-holiest site took place under the protection of Israeli police forces.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThese provocative actions fuel hatred and extremism, and obstruct efforts to advance a just and lasting peace based on the two-State solution,\u201d the statement said, calling the escalation \u201can unlawful attempt to alter the historical and legal status quo\u201d of the holy sites in Jerusalem.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cIsrael has no sovereignty over occupied Jerusalem or its Islamic and Christian holy sites,\u201d it said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

More than 4,200 Israeli settlers and members of far-right groups stormed the Al-Aqsa Mosque compound<\/a> on Thursday, one of the largest incursions this year, to mark the Jewish holiday of Tisha B\u2019Av.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Israel\u2019s far-right National Security Minister, Itamar Ben-Gvir, also\u00a0entered the site<\/a>\u00a0under heavy police protection.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Palestinian officials said Israeli forces imposed tight restrictions at the mosque\u2019s gates, barred large numbers of Palestinian worshippers and students from entering, and assaulted several people.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
