Rastah has always been experimental with its designs. Its clothes have a uniqueness to them that makes people turn and take a second look. That principle applies to a new accessory that\u2019s going to be on display at the brand\u2019s pop-up in New York City from today (Wednesday), which pays tribute to Pakistan\u2019s ties to the FIFA World Cup \u2014\u00a0a football.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The label unveiled a special football incorporating the different techniques that give Pakistani fashion its signature touch. We wouldn\u2019t exactly take it out for a field test, but it\u2019s gorgeous to look at.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In its Instagram post announcing the project on July 7, Rastah said the idea emerged three weeks ago when the team asked, \u201cWhat if we made a football entirely by hand?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It explained that they wanted to use \u201ctechniques our artisans have spent decades mastering\u201d like ajrak block printing, hand embroidery and embellishment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The ball features different fabrics and brocades, with pearl embroidery tracing the borders of the fabric.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The team at Rastah said it was \u201cone of the most technically demanding pieces we\u2019ve ever made\u201d, but there was \u201csomething poetic about it\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

They explained their inspiration came from Pakistani craftspeople who have made millions of footballs for FIFA tournaments over the years, including the ones used in the ongoing World Cup. These craftspeople, the team said, \u201care rarely part of the story\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Some of the FIFA World Cup balls are made in Sialkot<\/a> for Adidas. It began supplying footballs to international markets in the 1950s, and the industry has only grown since.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This project was a homage to them in Rastah\u2019s own language. It was also a tribute to the brand\u2019s \u201cartisans who continue to preserve centuries-old techniques\u201d and \u201ca country whose manufacturing excellence has quietly shaped the world\u2019s biggest sporting moments\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The post said the project was driven by the belief that \u201ctradition doesn\u2019t belong behind glass; it can evolve, experiment, and become something entirely new\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Through its colourful take on streetwear and Pakistani crafts, Rastah has made Pakistan proud a number of times, becoming the first Pakistani brand to showcase at\u00a0London Fashion Week<\/a>\u00a0and winding up in the wardrobes of A-list celebrities such as\u00a0Justin Bieber<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0Timoth\u00e9e Chalamet<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
