As India continues to violate the Indus Waters Treaty (IWT), the army\u2019s top brass on Monday affirmed its \u201cresolute commitment\u201d to undertake \u201call measures necessary\u201d to ensure the availability of Pakistan\u2019s rightful share of water.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The development came as Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) and Chief of the Army Staff Field Marshal Asim Munir presided over the 276th Corps Commanders\u2019 Conference (CCC) at General Headquarters (GHQ) in Rawalpindi, according to a statement from the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR).<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThe forum, taking note of Indian rhetoric surrounding the Indus Waters Treaty (IWT), reaffirmed the guidance given in the National Security Committee (NSC) directive\u201d of April 24, 2025<\/a>, which followed India\u2019s unilateral move<\/a> to put the treaty in abeyance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cThe forum expressed resolute commitment to undertake all measures necessary to ensure availability of Pakistan\u2019s rightful share of water as per the directives of the government and inspirations of the people of Pakistan,\u201d the statement read.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The attendees of the conference noted that \u201cpost-comprehensive defeat inflicted\u201d in\u00a0Marka-i-Haq<\/a>\u00a0\u2014 the period of\u00a0conflict<\/a>\u00a0with India last year \u2014 there was \u201cincreased reliance on an evolving pattern of externally supported hybrid warfare and disinformation campaigns to cause unrest\u201d in the country.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cThe forum condemned all such forms of state-supported financing, facilitation or sponsorship of proxies and underscored that any attempts to use hybrid means to destabilise Pakistan would continue to be countered with strategic clarity and firm resolve,\u201d the statement read.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Reviewing the evolving regional landscape, the forum \u201cappreciated Pakistan\u2019s constructive role in promoting dialogue, de-escalation and regional stability\u201d as it remains<\/a> a mediator in the peace negotiations between the United States and Iran.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The conference also reaffirmed the country\u2019s commitment to peaceful conflict resolution between the two countries, respect for international law, and enhanced regional cooperation to address shared security challenges, the military\u2019s media wing said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The army brass also \u201crejected and strongly condemned the ongoing human rights violations<\/a> and unilateral demographic engineering in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK), declaring that Kashmir remains the jugular vein of Pakistan\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Reaffirming Pakistan\u2019s unyielding diplomatic, political and moral support to the Kashmir cause, the forum emphasised that \u201ctrue regional stability hinges entirely on granting the Kashmiri people their inalienable right to self-determination in accordance with United Nations Security Council resolutions\u201d, ISPR said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Meanwhile, the forum \u201cexpressed serious concerns over the continued use of territory under the control of the Afghan Taliban regime by Indian-sponsored terrorist groups, including\u00a0Fitna al Khawarij<\/em>\u00a0(FAK) and\u00a0Fitna al Hindustan<\/em>\u00a0(FAH) to orchestrate attacks inside Pakistan\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The Pakistani government uses the term \u201cFitna al Khawarij<\/em>\u201d to refer to the banned Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) and its affiliates. It uses the term \u201cFitna al Hindustan<\/em>\u201d to refer to groups it accuses of being sponsored by India to execute terrorist attacks on Pakistani soil.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The attendees affirmed that last peace and stability in the region is contingent upon \u201cpreventing use of Afghan Taliban-controlled territory by Indian terrorist proxies for which the Afghan Taliban regime is directly responsible\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The top army brass declared that Pakistan has an \u201cunequivocal right\u201d to defend the country and the people from terrorism, and the armed forces shall continue intelligence-based operations (IBOs) against \u201cterrorism emanating from Afghan Taliban-controlled territory under the ambit of Operation Ghazab-lil-Haq\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n In addition to the kinetic actions, the forum underscored the \u201cimmediate need for putting in place robust governance structures in restive areas which are directed towards public service and welfare as well as to break the nefarious terror-crime nexus thriving under vested political patronage\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The forum also offered prayers for the martyrs of the armed forces, law enforcement agencies, and civilians, reaffirming that their \u201csacrifices remain the foundation of Pakistan\u2019s security, unity and resilience\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cThe forum reviewed [the] prevailing security environment, expressing satisfaction over the operational preparedness, professionalism, and combat readiness of the Pakistan armed forces,\u201d the statement read.<\/p>\n\n\n\n In his concluding remarks, CDF Munir directed commanders to \u201cfollow up expeditiously on the multi-domain transformation plan<\/a> in line with the evolving character of war\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n He also called upon the commanders to maintain the highest standards of vigilance, operational readiness and professional excellence, emphasising integrated responses to conventional, sub-conventional and hybrid threats while safeguarding Pakistan\u2019s sovereignty and national interests at all costs, the ISPR added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Islamabad has repeatedly urged<\/u><\/a> the Taliban administration in Kabul to dismantle terrorist sanctuaries on Afghan soil that are used for attacks in Pakistan.
