The filmmaker will be joined by six others, including Afghanistan’s Shahrbanoo Sadat and US actor Maggie Gyllenhaal.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The jury roster for the upcoming Venice Film Festival has been announced and last year\u2019s Silver Lion awardee Kaouther Ben Hania is one of the seven jurors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ben Hania\u2019s film The Voice of Hind Rajab<\/em> won the festival\u2019s second-highest honour and received a record-breaking 22-minute standing ovation<\/a> at its festival showing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The jury is headed by American filmmaker Maggie Gyllenhaal, whose psychological thriller debut as a director earned three Academy Award nominations and The Venice Film Festival\u2019s Award for Best Screenplay. She\u2019s also an accomplished actor, having earned an Academy nod for her performance in 2009\u2019s Crazy Heart.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ben Hania also has an impressive collection of Oscar nominations, most recently getting a Best International Feature Film nod for The Voice of Hind Rajab<\/em> \u2014 her second recognition in the category after a nod for The Man Who Sold His Skin<\/em> in 2021.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Her last film, The Lost Daughter<\/em>, won the L\u2019\u0152il d\u2019Or at Cannes and was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Documentary Feature.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dissident Afghan filmmaker Shahrbanoo Sadat is also on the panel. Sadat\u2019s film No Good Men \u2014<\/em> part of a five-part series inspired by the unpublished autobiographical manuscript of her longtime friend and collaborator, Anwar Hashimi \u2014 opened this year\u2019s Berlinale Film Festival.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Other jurors include Britain\u2019s Daniel Blumberg, Italy\u2019s Francesco Casetti, France\u2019s Xavier Giannoli and Taiwanese Johnnie To.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The jury will award the Golden Lion for Best Film, Silver Lion – Grand Jury Prize, Silver Lion for Best Director, Coppa Volpi for Best Actress, Coppa Volpi for Best Actor, Special Jury Prize, Award for Best Screenplay, and Marcello Mastroianni Award for Best New Young Actor or Actress.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The festival\u2019s 83rd iteration will be held from September 2-12.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
