This project will reduce the travel distance between the two cities by nearly 100 kilometres and improve road connectivity across Punjab.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Federal Minister for Communications Abdul Aleem Khan shared the plan while addressing the passing-out parade of the 12th Basic Recruit Course at the National Highways and Motorway Police (NHMP) Training College in Sheikhupura. The ceremony marked the graduation of 401 officers, including 67 women, who will join the motorway police force.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Proposed Motorway Link via Kharian<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>According to the minister, the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.brecorder.com\/news\/40410865\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">proposed&nbsp;<\/a>route will connect the M-11 Lahore\u2013Sialkot Motorway to Islamabad through Kharian, creating an alternative high-speed corridor between the provincial and federal capitals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The project could reduce travel distance by nearly 100 km while easing pressure on the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.pakwheels.com\/blog\/lahore-islamabad-distance-to-decrease-by-100-kilometers\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">existing Lahore\u2013Islamabad Motorway<\/a>&nbsp;(M-2), which currently handles most of the traffic between the two cities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The new corridor may also improve freight movement between major industrial hubs, including Sialkot, Gujrat, and Gujranwala.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>M-11 Expansion Toward Islamabad<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The 103-kilometre&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.pakwheels.com\/blog\/sialkot-lahore-motorway-m-11-to-open-for-the-public-on-30th-march-2020\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">M-11 motorway<\/a>, opened in 2020, significantly reduced travel time between Lahore and Sialkot and serves as a key route for the region\u2019s export-driven industries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The government plans to extend this network northwards through:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Sambrial\u2013Kharian Motorway (M-12)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Kharian\u2013Rawalpindi Motorway (M-13)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Once completed, these segments will link the M-11 corridor with the Islamabad\u2013Rawalpindi region, creating a continuous motorway route from Sialkot to the federal capital.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Motorway Expansion a National Priority<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Aleem Khan said expanding Pakistan\u2019s motorway network remains a key infrastructure priority.
